Hi Gordon:

Just saw this blog of yours as I received this offer from Zhengzhou a few weeks ago from my wife who knows I've been out of work for awhile and a part-time position would be fine for now. That said, I checked google to see if this was legitimate and I didn't find anything like your blog and so I proceeded as it seemed fine. I filled out a "Zhengzou Coal Mining Company Representative form" and submitted it via scanned email. On it was my address, email addy, phone #'s and a small picture of myself. No SS #'s were sent and such. After reading your blog, pretty obvious this is a ploy and so I'm wondering if I have put myself in danger as far as Identity theft or anything else I'm not thinking of? Or should I simply not proceed anymore and this will go away? I feel kind of stupid but I did do some due diligence and at the time, there was no negative reporting about this. Any advice you may or anyone else, would love to read it...thanks in advance....Billy

Hi Billy,

I am glad that I could help you at least be warned of the danger.

From what I have seen and heard, you did not give them enough information to be useful to them. I think at a minimum they would need SS# in order to attach any fraud to you. The info that you did give is freely available for most people, and does not result in fraud.

You can safely ignore them going forward. However, you must now extra diligent as these folks have your contact info, so they might be able to craft a more compelling, specific ploy.

Good Luck!
G.

Thank you so much for this blog, I almost signed up for this company. I recieved the offer from linkedin.com.There is not much information about this online, thanks again for exposing this scam.

My hubby did the same thing. He got the first assignment from Lifeng, then received the email said he would receive the payment in 7 days...now we know it's a scam...how did it go?

Yes, I too was hit upon by this same scam. Luckily for me I spotted a couple of things early on that flagged me, but it was the same scam as yours.

I was solicited by a LinkedIn person who said they were hired to help find people - blah, blah, blah exactly the same thing.

I ended up confronting the fellow, not sending in any form, and reported them to LinkedIn.

They wont care, but there is it.

Thanks for the blog here, as it was instrumental in getting to critical mass on the whole thing being a regularly perpetrated fraud. Probably identity theft oriented.

Anyway, thanks.
Sam

William Rimberg: You may want to run a scan to be sure there were no viruses or malware embedded in any attachments or links. Have you heard back from them since submitting your information?

Hello All. I've had a number of emails and offers to engage these companies in receivables collection. Its seem the criminals are filtering applicants that have collection experience as well, which I do 10 years collecting for a US telecommunications company. Beware....

Wow I wish I had been aware of your site before. So what can one do if one has fallen victim to this fowl play? Is there any recourse through the real Zhengzhou Coal by chance? Anybody interested in my story? I kept bringing these issues up with the bank, but then the bank assumes no responsibility even though I kept them informed of every sly move. Wouldnt Linkedin be partially responsible? What do I do at this point?? Please contact me at yeah-so@bk.ru, thanks.

Hi,
Glad I came across this blog. I received an intriguing request from an individual through LinkedIn. The "job opportunity" was as a "representative" for the Zhengzhou Coal Mining Machinery Group Co., Ltd. I was asked to contact the Director of the company (Li Feng) for more information. Based on what I've read in this blog, I'll pass. Thanks for making this information public.

I believed that the work was legitimate.
I made the collection of an account and received a check for mail and deposited in my bank account in Canada. But after several days the bank rejected the transaction and said it was a fraudulent check. My account was frozen, this caused me many problems. Be very careful.

Thanks for this! I got as far as my first collection, but the person who emailed seemed very suspect.

They have a good system going. Feng Li is very professional and all English is very good. They had me on the hook until the so called customer emailed me. That's where their system breaks down.

Wow, I feel stupid, but glad I didn't give any sensitive info.
